Finding Neverland on Broadway

The Broadway production “Finding Neverland” is one of those musicals that takes advantage of having the majority of the public previously familiarized with the story that will be told. It’s an adaptation of the eponymous 2004 film starred by Johnny Depp and Kate Winslet, receiving great acclaim from critics and several Oscar Academy Award nominations. A good entertainment option in New York for both children and adults, the musical tells the story of Sir James Matthew Barrie, author of Peter Pan. The writer was going through serious difficulties to continue his work because his plays were not well received by the public. In his search for inspiration to produce new texts, James meets a widow who was the mother of four children. He began entertaining them with jokes and stories and, from that relationship, he got the inspiration he needed to produce his greatest work: Peter Pan. The main character of the musical was played by actor Matthew Morrison who became famous for his role in “Glee”. He did extremely well transmitting all the sensitivity that the character required, considering that most of their solo numbers are internalized thoughts truly challenging for any actor. Laura Michelle Kelly, actress who plays Sylvia Llewelyn Davies’s widow, is another performance worth mentioning for its incredible work in the musical. The great problem of “Finding Neverland” is that it ends up being driven to the same sad ending of the film with the death of Kelly’s character, and it has just frustrated the audience. The most exciting scene was the one when we see the actor Kelsey Grammer becoming the dangerous Captain Hook amid Neverland buccaneers and a pirate ship with the sound of “Live by the Hook”. Being performed at The Lunt-Fontanne Theatre, it’s a good entertainment in New york for fans of the boy who didn’t want to grow up!
