During my trip to Buenos Aires in December, I had the opportunity to visit the wonderful Palacio Duhau Park Hyatt. The hotel is located in the most exclusive area of Recoleta, with its main entrance on Avenida Alvear. The name of the hotel comes from the fact the palace was the private residence of the Duhau family from the 30s until 1976. The Duhaus were important Argentine landowners and commissioned the architect León Duerge for the design of their huge mansion. He was inspired by the Château du Marais (in Le Val-Saint-Germain, near Paris) to complete this work in Neoclassical style. In the details of the decoration and furniture, we can see wheat drawings that refer to agricultural origin of the Duhau family’s wealth. The place has many indoor gardens and extremely elegant lounges. In my opinion, the hotel’s internal courtyard garden is certainly one of the most beautiful places in Buenos Aires. The other wing of the hotel, in turn, has a very contemporary décor maintaining the exquisite taste that is present in the other areas. The hotel offers spa, sauna, gym and indoor pool. It also has its own art gallery showing works of talented Latin American artists. In my opinion, the great hotel differential is the harmonic blend between the elegance of the neoclassical palace and the contemporary design of the other wing. It is worth mentioning that the immense courtyard garden is another pro of the place because an internal space like this is rarely found even in the best hotels around the world.
Restaurants
The hotel owns three restaurants and one bar: the Duhau Restaurant & Vinoteca, the Gioia Restaurant and the Piano Nobile Salones. The main restaurant of the hotel offers sophisticated Argentinean cuisine. Gioia Restaurant, in turn, serves international cuisine that offers gorgeous views of the Palace and the garden. Piano Nobile Salones offers breakfast and snacks throughout the day with special emphasis on afternoon tea.
