Château de Fontainebleau

Fontainebleau is a town which is about 55 km from Paris. The easiest way to get there is by train departing from Gare de Lyon to Fontainebleau-Avon station. On our way to the town, we may see the famous Forest of Fontainebleau and the journey takes about 40 minutes. Fontainebleau is really charming and the trip is already worth it just to see the town, but the greatest attraction of the place is the Château de Fontainebleau. It is the only royal palace that has been continuously inhabited for seven centuries. Besides, the Château de Fontainebleau was the scene of another important historical fact:. the Abdication of Napoleon before his departure to exile in 1814. As we might be expected of a French royal palace, the the decoration is stunning. With over 1500 rooms, the building owns one of the largest collections of antique furniture in France and has an amazing collection of paintings. Outside the palace, there is a lake and gardens that typical style of the French palaces. The Château opens daily from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. (last admissions at 4:15 p.m.) from October to March and from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. (last admissions at 5:15 p.m.) from April to September, but it is closed on Tuesdays.
